Jags ranked 18 & 19 in the country....
...but don't look into it too much. The USA men's basketball team appears on the Sagarin & RPI top-20 this week. The last time we were ranked was back in 1998, our last trip to the NCAA tournament. Unfortunately, this is the very beginning of the season and we have a tough road ahead of us, and this ranking will not last for long. Just pretty cool to see...

Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy holidays, everyone. This is one of the few truly American holidays that we have, next to July 4th, and I take pride that this is one of those days we can call our own. While everyone travels home to be with their family, I hang tight right where I am. A lot of people ask why I don't go home...oddly enough, Thanksgiving is not a huge deal in my immediate family. When my father was stationed overseas, we obviously never got home to be with family, so we just went to the base's dining hall and ate Thanksgiving dinner there with all of the airmen who had no family with them. I am not used to big family gatherings on this day, and I don't think I ever will be...Christmas is when we do that. So anyways, my parents are back in Florida, my sister is in Mobile at her in-laws' and I will go with Leah to her aunt's house to eat and watch football.
I always wake up early on Thanksgiving and quickly turn on the TV looking for the Macy's Parade. A local high school, Baker HS, led the parade this year so I got to see them briefly...how exciting for them! But, after that, I quickly remembered why I hate the parade. B-list celebrities lip-syncing to stupid songs, clowns, weird mascots. Barenaked Ladies just sang a dumb version of Jingle Bells or something. Anyway, so I quickly flip off. I do this every year....maybe it's tradition, or maybe I think that the parade will get better...never does.
Gonna go take a shower and get ready to go over to Aunt Lynn's...lookin forward to her hasbrown cassarole. Unfortunately they a "dry" family, so I'll have to watch football sans the beer. Oh, the sacrifices I make. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

Jags win home opener
Now that it's basketball season, I have something to really get excited about. South Alabama doesn't have a football team, so I have to wait until November to root on my Jaguars.
Last night was our home opener at the Mitchell Center, and we pulled off a win against Samford 52-50. 52 points? Rediculous...but our shooting percentage was pretty good, besides 3-pointers. Samford plays a low-tempo game, so usually those kind of games result in low scores.
The Jags still need to click a little better...some players looked lost on the court, but there were some who made some great plays. Tamsir Ba had a great block early in the game, and freshman Daniel Northern had at least 3 great blocks. Our defense needed some tall guys to pressure some shots. Mario Jointer dropped 19 points in the bucket and was player of the game.
Hopefully the Jags (1-1) will click a little better as the season progresses. We're not national title-contenders, so our record is meaningless until we get into conference play...I just consider the out-of-conference games kinda like "practice games."
Next game's Saturday night....til' then....Go Jags!

ABC's apology insults anyone with a clue about TV
11/18/2004
"Monday Night Football" is fun, and profitable for ABC. From its inception 35 years ago, it was only about 60 percent football and the rest entertainment, including the play-by-play from the announcers. ABC often has a pre-game spoof to delight the sports fans and lure marginal viewers into the program.
On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles played the Dallas Cowboys, an old rivalry that drew 17.1 million viewers. The teaser was a doozy. Actress Nicollette Sheridan from "Desperate Housewives" showed up clad only in a towel to persuade Eagles star Terrell Owens to abandon the game and play with her instead. He declined until she dropped the towel and stood supposedly naked before him.
The skit was sophomoric. While plenty of people were amused, protests were swift and noisy, just as ABC executives knew they would be. Besides complaints about sexual titillation, there were charges of sexual stereotyping. It was a public relations sensation.
By Wednesday morning, it was big news in metropolitan newspapers. CNN and other cable channels played the skit over and over. "Monday Night Football" and "Desperate Housewives" got mentioned each time -- just what ABC must have hoped would happen.
The network finally apologized, of course, adding "we agree that the placement was inappropriate." This was said with a straight face.
All this posturing is offensive. ABC isn't sorry -- it's happy. The National Football League's reputation isn't damaged, no matter what the league spokesperson says. Nor is the Eagles organization hurt in any way.
If the Federal Communications Commission is foolish enough to bother with this, let it. Whatever fine it might impose won't compare to the millions of dollars worth of free publicity the skit yielded.

Beef's World Radio
Today in my Communication Technology class, we played around with streaming media. Specifically, we worked with audio and used Windows Media Encoder, which gives us the ability to stream from Windows Media Player.
So I came home and was playing around with it and thought it would be cool to post my radio station for people to listen to, or to see what I'm listening to at least.
ack hold on....it's not working :(
So sorry
I think this is the first time that I've slacked off a bit on my blog...and for that, I'm sorry. School and work are wearing me out, and it seems whenever I have free time, I'm sleeping. Plus, I'm trying to stage my infamous 'end of semester' rally in regards to my grades. I'm pretty casual about school in the first part of the semester...which gets me less-than-desirable grades, but once the last week or two of the semester approaches, I kick my brain into high-gear and don't think about anything else. So...hopefully I'll be able to recover from my laziness. Wish me luck.

Downtown...where all the lights are bright....
Alright, I finally got some time to post about my night watching the Molly Ringwalds @ Cell Block. Seriously, everybody, I was blown away. The band consists of 5 guys, who all dress up as an 80s icon. There was Adam Ant on lead vocals, Dee Snyder on guitar, the Karate Kid on drums, either George Michael or MCA from Beastie Boys on keyboard. We could never figure out who the lead guitarist was...I say Robert Palmer. These guys rocked. I tried to remember all of the songs that they played, but most of them I've forgotten. I know they did "Vacation," "Separate Ways," "Take Me Home Tonight," "Jesse's Girl," "I Want Your Sex," "Take On Me" and as I laugh out loud, that's all I can remember...I had a few beers. Basically, every song was a bomb...and the whole crowd was into it, and how can you not be into it? That era is just plain good-time rock 'n roll...none of this teenage angst crap that plays now. I highly highly reccommend checking the Molly Ringwalds out if they come around your area....you could also book them on their website
I took pictures and decided I needed to start a new picture blog so this blog doesn't get bogged down with photos. I just posted them, and haven't done anything else so don't bitch about the quality; I'm not a professional photographer. Enjoy!
